Department of Advanced Materials Science (AMS)

Overview

The Department of Advanced Materials Science was established in April 1999 as one of the four departments of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, at the Kashiwa Campus of the University of Tokyo to create an epoch-making graduate school for the 21st century.

At the Department’s core are research groups formed from the former Departments of Engineering Science, Materials Engineering, and Applied Chemistry at the Graduate School of Engineering. The Institute for Solid State Physics joined the Department as a cooperative research group. In conjunction with RIKEN and SPring-8 (a large synchrotron radiation facility), the Department is currently the world’s largest research center for materials science. Our cutting-edge research encompasses the fundamental fields of physics, chemistry, materials science, applied physics, and applied chemistry. Through our interdisciplinary approach, innovative training programs, and an engaging environment, we nurture future materials science researchers and engineers who can work in the international arena. We welcome bright people who want to learn and expand the boundaries of the frontier sciences.

Why don’t you come to Kashiwa to study with our outstanding faculty?
